It is with great sadness that Crusaders Football Club has learnt of the passing of life long supporter Ivan Donnelly.
Ivan who was affectionately known as "the sweetie man" by some of the younger support was a charismatic figure around Seaview and sold sweets, crisps and soft drinks to many thousands of supporters over the years from under the old press box and it in later years from the club shop beside the Main Stand. At the end of each season Ivan donated some of the profits from his shop sales to the football club at the Player of the Year Awards with the rest going to the Grove Crusaders Supporters Club of which he was a committed member for as long as anyone can remember. Ivan was recognised for his efforts over the many years at last seasons award ceremony when he was given a "life member" season ticket.
Chairman Ronnie Millar said on hearing of the news "I would like to offer the sincere condolences of everyone at Seaview to Erika and Irma and the entire Donnelly family on the sad passing of Ivan. He was a man who was known by everyone and watched Crusaders home and away for a long time over a lot of years. Ivan was Crusaders through and through and it showed with his years of support, the sweet shop inside the ground and the donation from that at the end of each season"
"Our thoughts are with Ivans family as they come to terms with his passing and I ask you all to keep them in your prayers in the days and weeks ahead. Rest in peace Ivan. You will be remembered fondly by many"
